Smart move by Conan O’Brien getting Pearl Jam on his first night as host of The Tonight Show. I’m amazed at how after 20 years Pearl Jam still puts out great material and puts on a great show.

I’ve been watching Lost for a few years now. My wife and I first got into the show when she was on bed rest with our now two year old, Chloe. She was bored out of her mind sitting around all day so we got a hold of the Season 1 & 2 DVD sets of this great new show everyone was talking about.

We started watching one or two episodes a night in our home theatre and soon we were so intrigued we started watching three and four episodes at a time. We were hooked. When we were done watching the first two seasons on DVD we dove in to season three which by then had started on regular TV. We continued to enjoy the show but now it was a pain to have to wait a whole week before the next episode.

As you probably know, the latest season has just started and things in Lost-land are as odd as ever. While I still find it intriguing, it seems that the show is becoming more of a mental exercise than a suspenseful thriller. Sure, there are still moments of surprise and anticipation of revealing facts, but there have been so many different plot twists and new characters introduced that the viewer has to constantly think about the time/space context of any scene and the motivation behind the players in it. It is still entertaining, but not as much as when the simplicity of the story was still there.

The writers of Lost have said that they know exactly how the show will end and how everything will wrap up. I hope that they try to spin down all these different threads into one main story line as it gets towards the end. As with most things, the “keep is simple” mantra also works in entertainment.

Getting ready to watch the Super Bowl over here. I’m letting my son get his last minutes of Lego Star Wars for the Wii in on the big screen before I take over the remote. Hopefully it’ll be a close game. I predict the Cardinals will upset as I think that they’ll want it a little more than the Steelers will. I’ll predict 24-13 in the Cardinals favor.

Update: What a great game. Back and forth and close at the end. That’s all you can ask for in any championship game. I wish Warner would’ve been able to get that last ball downfield to at least give Fitzgerald a chance at it. The Cards did well, though, for their first trip to the big game. Looking forward to next September already. No football on Sunday afternoons means I gotta actually do stuff around the house!
