Internet Connection

We’ve had a local internet provider for about six years and they’ve been pretty good. For the last few months, however, they’ve been dropping the ball as our connection is constantly dropping out. I talked to a sales guy recently and he promised the world and, as you can expect, nothing happened. The connection seems a little more stable but a service tech who was supposed to visit to look at our antenna never showed and the billing department never called me back to discuss giving us a discount for the poor service the past few months.

As a result of all of this, I’ve been talking to Comcast to see if they can offer anything better. In terms of speed they are definitely better as we’re getting 1.5 Mbps now and Comcast can get us 12 Mbps in their most basic package. I’m guessing Comcast will probably be a little more reliable as it is a line based service and our current provider is wireless. It seems like whenever there’s a storm or anything our current provider drops.

Now, as you might guess, the downside to Comcast will probably be customer service and support, should we need it. The nice thing about having a small local provider is that I could always call and get a real-live person on the phone who knew me and was able to help. The two calls I’ve made to Comcast sales so far have been pretty good but I’m afraid that after they get my money they’re customer service will slip.

Not sure what I’m going to do yet but if I don’t post for a couple weeks you’ll know that whatever choice I made was the wrong one.
